A hazardous materials incident on Walker Road has ended with a sad discovery.
Windsor Police, Fire and EMS were called to the parking lot of The Real Canadian Superstore around 11:30am Friday morning after receiving reports of a strange smell emanating from a blue SUV in the parking lot.
Crews cordoned off the parking lot and called the Windsor Police Explosive Disposal Unit and Windsor Fire Hazmat Unit to the scene.
After eight hours of careful preparation, air quality tests with a robot, and breaking the vehicle’s windows, firefighters suited up in hazmat equipment and entered the vehicle.
Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Lee says one deceased individual was found inside the vehicle.
The matter is being turned over to Windsor Police.
