The City of Windsor is looking to limit pedestrian access along the riverfront during select festivals that take place on the festival stage this summer.
Last year during several festivals, temporary fencing was used to keep a path along the river open, while the festival stage area was fenced off. Complaints from festival organizers about crowd control issues and the safety of the fence itself have the City looking over its options.
The City says that currently there are four festivals that take place that will require controlled fenced access to the plaza for ticketing, security reasons and conditions of the Alcohol & Gaming commission to get a special occasion permit.
City administration is recommending during these events, pedestrian traffic be redirected completely around the plaza and up along Riverside Drive. This option will also create more festival space for organizers.
The report goes to council in a few weeks for final approval.
