Windsor Police have announced the appointment of their new, permanent Chief of Police, following a news conference at Police HQ this morning.
Al Fredrick has been appointed to lead the position long-term.
Fredrick stepped in as acting Police Chief following the sudden retirement of Chief Gary Smith last December.
The Windsor Police Services board began an extensive external search for a new chief before recognizing the impressive work performed by Fredrick following his temporary appointment.
Frederick implemented a twenty-seven point plan to improve accountability and communication within the Windsor Police Service.
Current police superintendent Vince Power and Essex OPP Inspector Rick Derus will be appointed as the department’s new Deputy Chiefs today following yesterday’s retirement of Deputy Chief Jerome Brannigan.
