A grassroots effort by concerned citizens to ensure the future use of borded-up-and-mothballed Adstoll Arena has been established as a page on Facebook.

Save Adstoll Arena states “We know someone who bid on Adstoll Arena to make it a community centre but then they were outbid for ‘development’. We have no idea what that would mean for the building” and “We need to save Adstoll Arena so that it can continue to be used as a gathering place. Sports that need a large, non-ice surface year-round have trouble finding a permanent space. Saving Adstoll would mean that activities like public roller skating, inline hockey, lacrosse, and roller derby would have somewhere to go.”

Adstoll Arena was originally up for sale in 2011 but a prospective buyer included in their bid a request to purchase an adjacent park and tennis courts. City Council voted in favour of re-listing the property on Monday.

Adstoll arena closed when the WFCU Centre replaced its use with three brand-new ice pads.

The Facebook page encourages Windsorites who are interested in saving the arena to contact Mayor Eddie Francis and/or their City Councillor.
