A new specialized mental health hospital facility, under construction for over two years, was dedicated and named this morning after a local foundation that has made a substantial donation toward the facility.
Located at the Western Campus of Windsor Regional Hospital the new facility will be known as the Toldo Mental Health Hospital and Outpatient Clinic.
The two-story, 75,000 square foot building is state-of-the art for patients requiring various levels of mental health care. Room design has made it safe for patients and staff with necessary amenities such as lifestyle rooms, pleasant garden surroundings and an atrium.
The building is sectioned into three clinical sections that will provide for mood and anxiety disorder, psychosis, dual diagnosis and psychogeriatrics, as well as specialized assessment. A number of specialized outpatient and outreach programs will be facilitated by ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) teams who will liaise with other mental health community agencies.
“This is a great accomplishment for patients and their families in Windsor and Essex County. For the last several decades, patients had to be transferred and families had to travel up the 401 to London and St. Thomas for tertiary mental health care. Now, bringing these patients back home where they belong has to be comforting for their families as well as themselves.” Remarked Wilf Innerd, the Board Chair of Windsor Regional Hospital
The new hospital will see its first patients transferred by November 15, 2011.
