With the growing popularity of book clubs across North America, Windsor Public Library will be offering book club to go kits. These are a collection of resources in one package which will enable local community-based groups to start or expand on their reading habits in a collective setting.
The kits are zippered bags containing 10-12 copies of a single title as well as discussion questions, book reviews, tips on running a book club and other supplemental information. Most of the books will be in trade paperback format and whenever possible, an audiobook on CD and a large print version will also be included.
“Libraries have an unprecedented opportunity to assume a leading role in initiating and supporting community book clubs,” says WPL Board Chair Al Maghnieh. “This initiative demonstrates that we continue to provide the traditional services expected of us – in addition to the technological advances we have made recently. By developing and sustaining book clubs, we are marrying the best of both library worlds – the old and the new.”
Librarian Christine Rideout-Arkell says “I think it’s fantastic that there are so many people in our community passionate about reading. In an era where so much of our interactions are online, book clubs offer a venue for people to meet face to face in a non-threatening and entertaining manner”
