The Albert Street house where Windsors first murder in two years occured (Google Earth)

Thursday night just after 11:00 pm Windsor’s run of over two years without a murder came to an end when 30 year old Jesse Meloche stabbed 40 year old Lance Peter Smoke.

This was the second stabbing in the city this week, the other occurred when a 22 year old man was stabbed early Sunday morning at a rooming house located at 230 Rankin Avenue on the city’s west side.

Late Monday night, Windosr Fire was called to a fire at Shawarma Express, a drive-thru and dine-in Lebanese restaurant in a plaza on Tecumseh Road in Central Windsor.  The fire gutted the inside of the popular shawarma place.

Essex County OPP are investigating a break and enter where a large quantity of jewellery was stolen after the suspect(s) entered a Russell Woods home and made off with approximately $400,000 worth of high end jewellery and watches last Sunday.

On Wednesday, the University of Windsor confirmed that it will go ahead with the purchase of the Windsor Star property at the corner of Pitt and Ferry Streets in downtown Windsor to become the new home of the University’s School of Social Work, and the Centre for Executive and Professional Development (CEPE).

Vistaprint was in the news again as Lakeshore OPP investigated a threatening note that was located in the Vistaprint plant Thursday morning.  The all-clear was given about two hours after it was found.
