In their last game of 2013, the Windsor Express remarkably capped off a stellar year of basketball. They played hard and worked hard Friday night at the WFCU Centre. As a result, they defeated the Ottawa Skyhawks 102-87.

The Express have now won 8 out of 9 home games this season.

Chris Commons led Windsor’s offense with 29 points and 6 rebounds. Stefan Bonneau netted 16 points, and Darren Duncan scored 9 and had 10 assists.

Ottawa’s Ryan Anderson put up big numbers for the Skyhawks. He led both teams in scoring with 31 points, while sinking 5 out of 6 three-pointers. He also had 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

Stefan Bonneau was fired up early. To get the game started, he forced a steal then dunked the ball. Later, he drove to the basket with a lay-up, and rushed back for another steal. The play set up another basket. He also hit a few three-pointers.

Windsor’s teamwork, steals and other forced turnovers increased its lead. More three-point baskets had the crowd solidly behind its team. The Express ended the half up a dominant 59-43.

For a while, Windsor maintained a 15-point lead. Ottawa got back into the game and narrowed the gap, mostly because of Ryan Anderson. At one point, they cut the lead to 5. The Skyhawks were only down by 9 at the end of the third quarter, thanks to a pair of fortunate baskets by the Express.

In between quarters, the Express recovered. They came out with an early, energetic surge of points. Ottawa tried to hang on, Windsor was too powerful. Just as they began the final quarter, they ended it – with lots of offense. Papa Oppong sank a late three to sweeten the win. Windsor beat the Skyhawks 102-87.

The Express play back-to-back games against the Mississauga Power next weekend at the WFCU Centre: Friday January 3rd and Sunday the 5th.
