Theresa Marentette, theChief Executive Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for the Windsor-Essex Health Unit released the follow statement about ongoing contract talks.
Yesterday, the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) made the decision to end ongoing collective agreement negotiations with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. We were hopeful that both sides would continue working toward an agreement for the people of our community. Unfortunately, union leadership has chosen to reject further negotiations.
Our number one priority is to meet the growing demand for public health services in Windsor Essex County. Every dollar we put toward pay increases is a dollar we take away from public health programs and services. We will continue to represent the best interests of the people of Windsor Essex County by working toward a fair and reasonable solution that prioritizes public health programs and services.
On Thursday, the Ontario Nurses’ Association called the final offer from the Health Unit disappointing.
