Recently, Walkerville’s missing ingredient — a sushi restaurant — opened up at 1801 Wyandotte Street East.
Owner Geoff McKay and partner, nephew Taylor McKay, have both agreed that business has been very successful since their May 1st opening.
Taylor recently traveled from Toronto to Japan and back again, bringing his love of high-end sake and his knowledge of the food industry back to Windsor to help out his uncle in the partnership.
Geoff, a prior entrepreneur in a slew of business ranging from electronics, jewellery and home furnishings, has lived in Walkerville for twenty-two years of his life.
“I’ve always been into business, and a restaurant was something I hadn’t tried,” said Geoff. “I looked at this location for approximately three years, and finally it all just fell into place. I knew what I liked and disliked from owning other businesses, that I knew what I wanted this place to be.”
Instead of the typical and traditional look-and-feel of most sushi restaurants, Geoff wanted to keep the old Walkerville character, with warmer colours to make the establishment more classy.
Sushi Guru is now open in the previous Old Town Sweet Shop location at 1801 Wyandotte Street East, and is open Monday to Wednesday from 11:30am until 9pm, and Thursday to Saturday from 11:30am until 11pm. You can contact the restaurant at (519) 915-0139.
