Rose City Gymnastics is hosting the Ontario Provincial Gymnastics Championships from April 3rd to April 6th and the event is set to welcome top Ontario athletes in men’s artistic gymnastics, women’s artistic gymnastics and acrobatics to St. Clair’s brand new SportsPlex.
“We are extremely excited to be the first group utilizing St. Clair’s Sportsplex.” says Rose City Gymnastics VP Mary-Helen Frisella-Spadafora. “We realize it is a state of the art facility that will be able to bring a WOW factor to the Championships.”
Organizers say that last year’s four-day event, which was also hosted by Rose City Gymnastics, brought around 5,000 people out and generated significant economic spinoff to the region.
This year, organizers say many returning competitors and their family members are looking forward to again enjoying the “southern” hospitality of Windsor-Essex and all that it has to offer.
Frisella-Spadafora says the championships make a great learning opportunity for parents who want to get their kids involved in gymnastics. “Athletes, girls and boys, from ages 8 to 18+, who are competing at this level are dedicated and skilled sportsmen with a desire to succeed.”
“What better way for parents to actually see what gymnastics is all about and how much athleticism is needed to be successful.”
On top of hosting the Ontario Gymnastics Championship, Rose City Gymnastics was recently granted funding to expand their Division Road building.
Frisella-Spadafora is optimistic about the future for gymnastics locally.
“It’s an exciting time for us, from hosting the championships to taking the next steps for expansion, we are really looking forward to showcasing our talent and our community to the rest of Ontario!”
