As construction season kicks into high gear on area roads, the OPP is sending out a reminder to the motoring public to be prepared for slowdowns in construction zones and drive accordingly.
There are currently several areas in Essex County where roads are under construction, and often, there are detours created so that work can be completed safely for workers. These detours are carefully planned out, with many factors affecting where a detour occurs. The public is reminded to follow the designated detours appropriately.
Police say to always drive at the posted reduced speed limit and keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Changes to the Highway Traffic Act have doubled speeding fines in construction zones when workers are present.
