44 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 44 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says 14 cases are community acquired, 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 15 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 19,070 on Tuesday September 14th to 19,114 on Wednesday September 15th.
They say 429 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 26 since yesterday).
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 3,750 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 50 since yesterday).
Variant case strains:
- 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
- 1,748 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 51 since yesterday)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 308,752 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+382 since yesterday)
- 26,486 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-76 since yesterday) *
- 282,266 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+458 since yesterday)
- A total of 591,018 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+840 since yesterday)
* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses
Vaccination Percentages
- 70.49 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.09 per cent since yesterday)
- 81.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 64.44 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.11 per cent since yesterday)
- 74.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.
