73 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 73 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 14,737.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,664 on Friday April 16th to 14,737 on Saturday April 17th and 440 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak-related, 26 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 18 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 28 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 457 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 77 identified since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 117,627 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+2,659 since yesterday)
    • 104,971 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+2,618 since yesterday)
    • 12,656 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+41 since yesterday)
  • A total of 130,283 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,700 since yesterday)

There are two vaccination programs at this time:

  • Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
    • Those eligible include:
      • Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
      • Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
      • Healthcare workers in the highest priority, very high priority or high priority groups
      • People with the highest risk health conditions

    • Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,888 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 87 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 409.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 18 hospitalizations today: 14 people in acute care (increase of 1 today), and 4 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
