9 New Deaths, 141 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 141 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County as of Thursday, bringing the local total to 6,464.

Cases increased from 6,323 on Wednesday December 23rd to 6,464 on Thursday December 24th and 1,290 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 33 cases are outbreak related, 6 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 cases are community acquired, and 101 cases are still being investigated.

They say 5,060 people locally have recovered (an increase of 147 recoveries today).

As of Thursday, the Health Unit is reporting nine new deaths from COVID-19, bringing the local death toll to 114. The Health Unit says:

  • 8 new deaths were among residents from long-term care homes
    • 1 man in his 70’s
    • 3 women in their 80’s
    • 2 women in their 90’s
    • 2 men in their 80’s
  • 1 new death was from the community
    • A man in his 70’s

Hospitalizations

As of Thursday, the Health Unit lists 80 hospitalizations: 63 people in acute care (increase of 3 today), and 17 people in the ICU (increase of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

  • Richmond Terrace (Amherstburg) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell Classic Oak Park LaSalle (LaSalle) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Sun Parlour Home (Leamington) has 0 resident cases and 4 staff cases
  • Banwell Gardens Care Centre (Windsor) has 31 resident cases and 9 staff cases
  • The Shoreview at Riverside (Windsor) has 4 resident cases and 5 staff cases
  • La Chaumiere Retirement (Puce) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 36 resident cases and 21 staff cases (2 new resident cases, 2 new staff cases)
  • Berkshire Care Center (Windsor) has 45 resident cases and 38 staff cases
  • The Village at St. Clair (Windsor) has 97 resident cases and 67 staff cases
  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 3 resident cases and 2 staff cases (1 new resident case)
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 41 resident cases and 9 staff cases
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 4 staff cases

  • 5 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington (1 new outbreak today)
  • 4 outbreaks at agri-farms in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Essex
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh
