Despite some early showers, a local restaurant’s efforts to send kids to camp weren’t dampened.

Taking part in Tim Hortons annual camp day, the location at 3136 Jefferson Boulevard was helping raise funds for the Tim Hortons Foundation. With 100-per-cent of brewed coffee sales benefiting the charity, those involved also earned cash to send youths 12-16-years-old from low income homes to camp.

For an extra dollar, customers could personalize their donut with a message until 5 p.m. while limited edition bracelets were being sold for $2 each. Staff also volunteered their time and money, raising over $200 to pay for a barbecue, cotton candy machine in addition to several raffle prizes that were donated by them and local businesses alike. That’s not including colouring pages put together for the event specifically and a throwing game for children with additional prizes.

Members of the community also volunteered their time to help. Beyond staff who joined the effort on their own time, six students from Davis school helped raise funds for an hour before going to class. Relatives of event organizers, police officers and firefighters (along with one of their trucks) all came to lend a helping hand throughout the day as well.

For those who can’t make it to Tim Hortons before midnight, there are still several ways to donate throughout the year. Boxes are provided at every store to collect change and customers can ask that their order total be rounded up and given to the foundation.

Another easy way to help the cause is by donating online — both one time or monthly options are available.
