Windsor City Council has voted to have administration look at contracting out caretaking services.

The issue was first before council on November 16th, 2015, but by a vote of 6 to 5, council voted not to contract the work out.

Council then at an in camera meeting in December asked administration to revisit the issue, and find ways the jobs could be contracted out with no layoffs.

Administration put together a multi-year plan that would see no layoffs, but the current caretakers replaced as they retire or other jobs in the city open up that they could bump into.

Administration said that preliminary projected savings of approximately $403,000 would be realized as a result of the contracting out of services at Huron Lodge, while approximately $525,000 would accrue as a result of the contracting out of other city facilities such as the City Hall campus, Public Works administration, and Parks and Recreation facilities.

By a vote of 6 to 5 council directed administrator to issue a request for proposals to see what options are out there, and the true cost savings.

This does not mean the work will be contracted out at this point.  It will come back to council for final approvals.
