Windsor Raceway officials announced this morning that it expects all horse racing operations to cease at the financially troubled facility on August 31st.
The Raceway said that despite OLG reports, there is no arrangement in place to facilitate any continued horse racing at the raceway.
The Slots at Windsor Raceway closed on April 30th, and the OLG has entered into a short term agreement with the Raceway until August 31st, to provide some funding while they remove the slot operations from the facility.
Patrick Soulliere president of Windsor raceway is calling on the OLG to meet with the raceway to discuss all outstanding concerns, so the horse racing industry in Windsor can be protected, but the OLG has refused.
“The OLG must end its attempts to enhance the Caesars Windsor property at the expense of Windsor Raceway and horse racing in Essex County” said Soulliere. “This conduct is already having an impact on horse racing operations and places horse racing and the thousands of jobs tied to it in our region in great jeopardy” Soulliere said.
