Windsor Police and the Fire Marshal are investigating after the second blaze in two weeks at an apartment building at the corner of Pierre and Erie in the Via Italia area.
Crews were called around 1am Saturday and found fire in an apartment unit on the second floor.
Smoke began to flow out of the roof as residents and neighbours gathered around to watch. Firefighters knocked down the blaze quickly.
An aerial truck was set up and firefighters made their way to the roof to ensure the fire had not spread.
It appears that nobody was in the apartment unit at the time the fire started. There are no injuries reported but firefighters evacuated the entire building.
Four people and two pets were displaced, and the Red Cross assisted with finding accommodations for them.
Damage is estimated to be around $150,000. Windsor Fire officials say the blaze does not appear to be suspicious but the cause is currently undetermined.
This is the second fire at this same apartment building this month. Firefighters were called on July 2nd for a fire that destroyed an apartment unit on the first floor. Windsor Police and investigators from Windsor Fire & Rescue said the fire on July 2nd was deliberately set.
This is also the fourth fire in Windsor in less than 36 hours.
