New Sculpture Planned For Riverfront Sculpture Garden

A new butterfly designed memorial monument is being donated to the Windsor Sculpture Garden along the riverfront by the Brain Injury Association of Windsor-Essex County.
The proposed monument will have two bronze arms rising out of a granite base with hands releasing butterflies made of steal on top. The entire monument will be seven to eight feet tall.
The sides of the base will be carved with the names submitted by families and friends of those who have suffered brain trauma. Each year new names will be added as part of a yearly ceremony at the monument.
Also cared will be the words “This is dedicated to those who have lost their lives to brain injury. May we remember that the human brain is a fragile as a butterfly’s wings.
The monument is designed by local artist Jack Byng, who is known for cresting the sumo wrestler display at the downtown branch of the Windsor Public Library.
A location in the Sculpture Garden has not been decided on yet. It is hoped to have the monument installed by June 2013 as part of this regions Brain Injury Awareness Month.
This is the second new piece for the Sculpture Garden in a year. In 2012, The Claim Post by artist Scott McKay was added to the riverfront.
