As the holiday season commences, both Windsor hospitals are recommending that Windsor-Essex residents contact their family physicians, local clinics and health care providers to confirm days and hours of operation during the holidays for any non-emergency health care needs.
During Christmas, both Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital say that they experience increases in volumes, and that sometimes it is as a result of individuals not being aware in advance of other options that may be available, and therefore use the hospitals as a primary care provider.
As a result, the local hospitals suggest:
• Check now with your family physician on his/her days and hours of operation during the holidays;
• Check now the days and hours of operation of any local walk-in clinic in your area or within your commuting distance that handles non-urgent healthcare needs;
• Have the Telehealth Ontario phone number handy, 1-800-797-0000, to speak to a registered nurse;
• If you do not have a family physician you can find one easily by going to the Healthcare Connect website http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/ms/healthcareconnect/public/ or by calling 1-800-445-1822
