The Jiimaan ferry that provides transportation between Kingsville and Pelee Island went aground on a sand bar off Kingsville around 2pm this afternoon due to extremely low water. Ferry operators report that there is no apparent damage to the boat and that all passengers on board are safe.
Weather conditions will not permit the safe disembarkation of passengers from the Jiimaan tonight. They will all remain on board until Friday morning.
Arrangements have been made to resume ferry service to and from the islands on Friday. The Pelee Islander will depart Leamington at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm and at 10am, 2pm, 6pm from Pelee Island.
