The Windsor Spitfires are flying again! Tonight at 7:05pm, at the WFCU Centre, the Spitfires battle the Owen Sound Attack in their home-opener. The doors open at 6pm, and there are plenty of pregame festivities for the fans to enjoy beforehand.
Though the team had but one win in the preseason, their stars certainly had some firepower. Forwards Kerby Rychel, Ben Johnson, Derek Schoenmakers and newcomer Josh Ho-Sang had multiple-point games. With the offensive ammunition in hand, the Spits they have the ability to light up the scoreboard.
The Spits ran into a little bit of trouble before their preseason even began. The team was fined $400,000 and was stripped a total of 5 first- and second-round draft picks between 2013 and 2017. They also sent forward Nick Czinder and defenseman Jeff Braithwaite to Kitchener in exchange for forward Juraj Bezuch and a 6th round draft pick in 2013. Bezuch had a strong preseason since coming to Windsor, and should fit right in with the rest of the group.
Let’s cheer on the Spitfires as they take off and soar past the offseason woes, and welcome new players, and a new season.
Take flight,
Go Spits Go!
