For twenty years, Windsor has had a great Pride Festival, celebrating the areas LGBTQ community and it’s allies. This year was no different.
The fest kicked off on Thursday night with bowling and an opening party at Legends of 2012, a dance bar located on Wyandotte St E. On Friday night local musicians joined the fun for the Friday Night OUT event, featuring music from The Blue Stones, the unquiet dead, and Jody Raffoul. Everything collected from this part of the festivities was donated to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation.
Saturday morning worshippers were able to experience a church service at the riverfront, hosted by the Metropolitan Community Church of Windsor. That night the riverfront came alive with electronic music and aerial acrobatics as everyone came out for a dance party.
Windsor-Essex Pride culminated with a parade and more musical performances on Sunday. The parade began at 11 am and moved it’s way down Ouellette Ave, to the cheers of a hefty and very supportive crowd. Numerous members of the community participated, including CJAM 99.1 FM, the NDP Party, My Pet’s Butler, Windsor EMS, Fire, and Police, among many others.
The afternoon held a busy schedule of performances from Toronto’s Miss Conception, local musicians Bigg Wiggle, and Kelly and the Kellygirls, a popular ska/flamenco band from Toronto.
