Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 247 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday.

Please note: The Health Unit says their offices will be closed for the New Years holiday. Their next cases and outbreaks update will be on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 46 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 31 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 169 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 24,706 on Wednesday December 29th to 24,953 on Thursday December 30th.

There are 1,224 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 99 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 358,068 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+296 since yesterday)
    • 24,871 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+102 since yesterday)
    • 333,197 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+194 since yesterday)
    • 118,260 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+4,435 since yesterday)
  • A total of 809,525 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,925 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 81.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 86.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 76.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 80.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 26.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 1.0 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 23,234 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 141 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced seven additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 495. They say 3 males in their 50s from the community, 1 male in his 70s from the community, 1 female in her 50s from the community, 1 female in her 80s from the community, and 1 female in her 90s from a long-term care or retirement home passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 17 hospitalizations today: 11 people in acute care (increase of 1), and 7 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
