Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday And Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 96 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday and Friday. The Health Unit did not report cases on Thursday due to the Remembrance Day holiday.
New & Total Cases
Of the 96 new cases: 60 cases were reported on November 11th and 36 cases were reported on November 12th.
The Health Unit says 32 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 23 cases are community acquired, 4 cases are outbreak-related, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 36 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 20,752 on Wednesday November 10th to 20,848 on Friday November 12th.
They say 252 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 62 since Wednesday).
Variants of Concern
- 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
- 3,165 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 82)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 327,054 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+377 since Wednesday)
- 14,600 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-225 since Wednesday)
- 312,454 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+602 since Wednesday)
- 8,230 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+778 since Wednesday)
- A total of 647,738 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,757 since Wednesday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 74.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Wednesday)
- 86.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Wednesday)
- 71.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since Wednesday)
- 82.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Wednesday)
- 1.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Wednesday)
Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 20,130 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 34 resolved cases since Wednesday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 466.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 16 hospitalizations today: 14 people in acute care (increase of 8), and 2 people in the ICU (decrease of 3) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
