Three Outbreaks Declared At Windsor Essex Schools

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has declared outbreaks at three more schools in Windsor Essex.

Per Ontario Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education direction, an outbreak is declared once it has been determined that two individuals have tested positive with an epidemiological link (e.g. these children/staff could have become infected with COVID-19 at school, either from each other or a common source).

One of the outbreaks was declared at Mount Carmel Blytheswood Public School in Leamington on October 19th.

The Health Unit said in a letter to parents that several cohorts have been dismissed, and testing has been recommended for the entire school.

An outbreak has also been declared at the Giles Campus French Immersion Public School on October 18th.

A letter to the school community says children, staff, and visitors part of the cohort that were in attendance from Friday, October 8th, 2021 to Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 are directed to self isolate and get tested if symptoms develop.

The Health Unit has also declared an outbreak has also been declared at St. Angela Catholic Elementary School. The outbreak was declared on October 19th. No other details were provided.
