32 New Cases Of COVID-19, 3 New Deaths In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 32 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 13,445.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,413 on Monday March 15th to 13,445 on Tuesday March 16th and 281 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak related, 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 8 cases are community acquired, and 15 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 23,786 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+3,160 since yesterday)
  • 11,877 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+23 since yesterday)
  • A total of 47,540 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,206 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says 4,432 people 80 years of age and older have been vaccinated at the clinics at the WFCU Centre and the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Complex. She says around 15,600 people aged 80 and over have registered to date. Marentette says they expect to finish vaccinating those aged 80 and up by the end of the month.

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

  • People 80 years of age and older
    • Vaccination pre-registration is available for those 80 years and older at this link: https://uwindsor.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cNLRzBnAEGB0tDg
    • Or you can call 519-251-4072.
    • The Health Unit says you should pre-register using their system and not the province’s system. They say if you try to register on the province’s system, you will be re-directed to the local system.
  • People aged 60 to 64

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,763 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 40 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced three additional deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 401.

They say:

  • two men in their 70s from the community passed away
  • a woman in her 80s from the community passed away

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 31 hospitalizations today: 27 people in acute care (1 more today), and 4 people in the ICU (2 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
