The first phase of installing new alley lights in VIA Italia is now complete with six new alley lights as part of their “Alley Safety Project.”
The project is a partnership between Via Italia, the City of Windsor, Windsor Police Services, and Enwin Utilities.
“The new LED lights have significantly elevated the level of safety within the Via Italia alley network by extending and expanding openly visible view corridors. This has created conditions where people feel safer, and activity becomes subsequently more accountable,” said Barry Horrobin, Director of Planning and Physical Resources at Windsor Police Services.
The new lights are part of a larger project that will see 41 additional lights installed starting in the spring of 2021.
“We’re really excited to have this added safety feature to our area. The merchants, staff, residents and visitors alike will all benefit from the feeling of additional security in what is already a terrific neighbourhood,” said Filip Rocca, BIA President and Owner of Mezzo Ristorante.
