The EcoSchools team from Leamington District Secondary School is the Grand Prize winner of the 2016 RBC-Evergreen Watershed Champions Award.
They won this away for their efforts to protect and advocate for their local watershed.
They were cited for engaging “in environmental advocacy at a local level and a global level”. They lobbied Leamington Town Council to take action to reduce phosphorous-containing fertilizers on municipal property, they spoke to hundreds of elementary students about wetlands education and they staged an Earth Day Expo that was attended by more than 400 community members.
The award comes with a $3,500 prize that will be used for a future environmental project.
