Traffic makes its way westbound on Wyandotte on Saturday afternoon

Wyandotte Street East in Olde Walkerville has reopened to traffic after nearly four months of construction.

The street closed during the week of Canada Day for a major street-scaping and beautification initiative.

Final work took place last week and construction crews reopened Wyandotte and its side streets to traffic just after 2pm, Saturday.

Construction included watermain, road and sewer work, reconstruction of sidewalks, new crosswalks, a new road surface, bike lanes for the first time on this stretch of Wyandotte, bumped-out curbs at intersections to make crossing easier, new trees, benches, lights and sign posts.

The Walkerville BIA says way-finding signage, parkette signage, new street banners, and touch ups to lighting fixtures will continue over the next few weeks.

Standard parking metres have been installed for now, but new “Smart” parking metres (which accept credit cards) are on order for Walkerville
