PHOTOS: Windsor’s Riverfront Turns Into Family Glow Party For w.a.v.e.s. Festival

Windsor’s riverfront lit up with energy as families took in the first evening of the Windsor’s Artists, Visions, Energies and Sculptures Festival.

The new festival, which was created to connect art, culture and technology, kicked off Friday evening with dozens of food trucks, a glow bicycle ride, and hundreds of people checking out sculptures, lit-up trees, and interactive, technological art exhibits.

Projects were selected through an open call to local, emerging and national acts inviting individuals and organizations to be inspired by the theme of “waves” in sound, light, movement or otherwise. The application asked for “the unexpected” and over 20 projects were selected to animate the park throughout the day and illuminate the night, including solar and kinetic-powered installations.

Highlights include the entire park lit up by Marz Media as an art installation entitled RGB Dreamscapes, Motor City Junk-Kit, a drum-kit made from recycled car parts, the Invisible Poets, a free-style, spoken word rap group, a 3D printer, an interactive exhibit to explore the cockpit of the Windsor Lancaster FM212 Bomber, smart phone microscopes and the University of Windsor’s Let’s Talk Science.

The w.a.v.e.s. festival continues Saturday from 4pm to 11pm and the food truck component starts earlier at 11am.
