[Updated Tuesday June 17th, 9:45am: City officials say they made an “incorrect oversimplification” when describing to the media the difference between containers with wheels or no wheels. The City says metal or plastic pails can have wheels as long as they meet the other criteria. windsoriteDOTca has removed this error at the request of the City of Windsor.]
The City of Windsor has issued a reminder to residents and businesses that new rules for garbage pickup come into effect in two weeks.
As of July 1st, 2014, all garbage bags stored on your property or placed out for collection must be placed in a hard-sided container. The city says there are two forms of acceptable garbage containers:
- Metal or plastic pail – these are a maximum capacity of 125L (30 gal) with one or two handles and a removable lid;
- Roll-out cart – these must have a lower bar 18” from the ground and an upper lift attachment 33” from the ground.
As of July 1st, any garbage bags placed at the curb will not be picked up.
The city says having all garbage in sealed containers will reduce the amount of food available to wildlife and wildlife will no longer be able to rip open bags of garbage while hunting for food.
