A final look at the 100-year-old General Amherst High School is planned for Saturday, May 14th, 2022. The school is set to close in June, and students will attend the new North Star in September.
The celebration will take place from noon to 7 pm and will see Laird Avenue North from North Street to Fort Malden Drive blocked off to allow food trucks to be stationed at the event. Nat’s Wraps & Apps and Twisted Sistaz food trucks will offer food throughout the afternoon. The leadership class will be selling water and pop, raising funds for the new school.
The committee has recently announced that GAHS’ signature ‘Caf Cookies,’ which have been sold in the school’s cafeteria for over three decades, will be for sale at the event.
The school’s PE Leadership Class is also leading several indoor and outdoor activities. Those attending can expect to tour decade rooms, participate in a silent auction for school memorabilia, take pictures in designated photo opp spaces, and much more.
Live, local music will be available all afternoon, featuring alumni musicians from the high school and the school band. Between 12 to 6:30 pm, patrons can hear from Bethany D’Alimonte, Two of A Kind, Sydney Matlock, The GAHS Band, Adam Butcher, Electric Blue, Hartt and the Gold, and Ryan Chappell.
Those attending are encouraged to make donations and purchase t-shirts to help support enhanced amenities and programming at the new North Star High School, an amalgamation of General Amherst High School and Western Secondary School.
