The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 12 additional cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning, bringing the local total to 518. They say 93 people locally have recovered.
Cases increased from 506 on Tuesday April 21st to 518 on Wednesday April 22nd.
The Health Unit says there have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 as of Wednesday and the death toll stands at 31.
The Health Unit says 4,468 tests have been conducted as of Wednesday and 605 tests are still pending.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says most of the recently confirmed cases are from long-term care and retirement homes, but there’s still evidence of community transmission in Windsor-Essex. “Some of the cases are still coming from community spread with no obvious source, but that number is going down,” he said.
