Two parking lots in the City Hall Square area are set to close permanently on Monday to make room for construction of the New City Hall.
Parking lots 1 and 17, which are located immediately south of the current 350 City Hall will be fenced to create a worksite for Oscar Construction.
Public parking will still be available in lot 10, which is located immediately west of lots 1 and 17 and kitty-corner to City Hall, across the street from St. Alphonsus Church, as well as at the many street parking meters surrounding the area.
Pedestrian access around City Hall and the 400 building will be maintained, though there will no longer be sidewalk access cutting through the south side of the 350 City Hall Square grounds.
On June 28th, 2016 construction will also close a section of the City Hall Square East roadway between the two City Hall campuses. Vehicular access will no longer be available from the south. However, access from University Avenue East to the north parking lot and underground parking lot will not be affected.
Construction of the new 28-million dollar City Hall building will begin this month with completion slated for spring 2018.
