OPP say that they continue to investigate the cause of Wednesday’s fatal multi-vehicle crash on Highway 3.
Police say that around 2:30pm a GMC pickup truck was hauling a utility trailer heading westbound on Highway 3 approaching Essex County Road 23. The GMC rear ended a Pontiac travelling in the same direction. The Pontiac then rear ended a Chevrolet van. The Pontiac then veered off into the oncoming lane impacting a transport truck and also another Pontiac.
Diana Pepper, age 67 of Leamington who was a rear passenger in the first Pontiac succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Two other females in the first Pontiac sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Three males in the Chevrolet van sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
One male in the GMC pickup sustained minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital.
One male in the tractor-trailer was not injured.
One female in the second Pontiac received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours as police investigated.
Their investigation remains ongoing.
