Sun Parlor Home in Leamington is home to 206 senior citizens. Many of the residents are afflicted by various forms of dementia and this affects not only their physical well being, but also their ability to communicate and feel alive.
The home is in the process of becoming a Music and Memory certified home. Music and Memory is a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology, with the end goal of vastly improving their quality of life.
The staff will receive training on how to create and provide personalized playlists using iPods and related digital audio systems that enable those struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other cognitive and physical challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories.
To make this program possible, they are looking for donations of used ipods of any type, iphones, ipads even itunes gift cards.
Once they have the ipods they will then be able to upload the songs that the resident has selected for their personal play list for their enjoyment.
Their goal is 206 ipods, one for each resident.
Donations ca be dropped off at Roseland Golf and Country Club to the attention of Patti Schaffsma, or at Makin’ Music – Music Store in LaSalle located at 1468 Front Road.
