Door to door mail delivery to homes in three local postal code sorting areas will be transitioning to community mailboxes in the new year.
Canada Post announced a plan last December to end letter carrying for homes across Canada and said the full transition would take five years.
A spokesperson for Canada Post said the change will affect just over 5,000 residences in Windsor, Tecumseh and Lakeshore and those affected will receive information by mail before any changes take place.
Today, the company announced the first local door to door changes would take place in 2015 in the N8N, N8P and N9K postal code forward sorting areas.
The entire program is expected to save Canada Post around half a billion dollars annually.
