Essex Mayor Ron McDermott is a hard-working public servant, but in his spare time, the 76-year-old’s acting career is flourishing as he transforms into a gangsta’ rapper in a new sitcom episode.
The town-mayor-turned-actor is back for episode 2 of “Yo, Ron?” where he helps out two filmmakers from the University of Windsor to portray a do-rag wearing, chain-dangling, boom-box-carrying, snapback-sideways gangsta rapper.
“It is intended as an over the top satire of bad 90’s sitcoms,” says writer and director Jakob Skrzypa who, along with co-creator Alex Forman, published episode 2 on YouTube, Saturday.
The episode features many familiar Seinfeld-like gags.
Yo, Ron? features college student and bookworm Kane Shamble and his roommate Ron, a rappin’ party animal who “cares about nothing except having a good time”.
McDermott got his YouTube acting start in the first episode of the web series in March of last year and Skrzypa hopes the new episode will take off.
“The first episode has close to 3,000 views on YouTube…it is my hope that this episode will match or surpass the previous one.”
