A new restaurant is being built on Walker Road south of Division.

Lone Star Texas Grill is “Canada’s original Tex-Mex restaurant full of big bold tastes and Texas-sized fun” according to company information.

Property owner Abe Taqtaq, who owns a number of businesses including Taza Mediterranean Grill, confirmed that the new building — currently under construction — will in fact be a Lone Star restaurant.

Taqtaq says that in addition to the full service restaurant, construction will see another 5,500 sq ft building added towards the back of the property.

Lone Star Texas Grill was founded in 1986 by late NFL / Canadian Football League player Val Belcher and has expanded to 21 locations across Ontario.

Lone Star’s facebook page says they were the first Tex-Mex restaurant to “stampede into Canada” in 1986.

The restaurant features ribs, mesquite-grilled steaks, fajitas and plenty of “southern spirit”.

Construction is expected to take a few months.
