The 5 km Le Chocolat run and walk taking place on May 5 as a primer to Mothers’ Day will re-open this Friday at noon due to overwhelming demand.

Le Chocolat was originally capped at 500 participants because of the number of Coach purses organizer Running Flat was able to secure. “Even though the 500 Coach purses have been claimed by the early bird registrants, the phone and emails have not stopped from women around Canada and the United States who want to be a part of this run/walk,” said race founder and director Chris Uszynski.

The run takes place in the picturesque neighbourhood of Walkerville, allowing participants views of the beautiful Detroit River and the trendy neighbourhood of Walkerville. “Having Walkerville as a backdrop is great. You can have lunch and go shopping afterwards at the amazing local businesses,” said Uszynski.

The Walkerville Business Improvement Association is excited to be involved in the event. “Having the run begin and end in the heart of our beautiful and historic business district is both an honour and an opportunity. We are certain the participants and guests of this run will enjoy what Walkerville has to offer,” said Joan Charette, coordinator of the Walkerville Business Improvement Association. “Some businesses are also planning special promotions exclusive to this event,” added Charette.

Additional registrants will not receive a Coach purse, but they will still indulge in chocolate, enjoy the fresh air, window shop, and be awarded a chocolate-inspired medal for participating in this 5 km run.

Proceeds of the race go to the Windsor Firefighters’ Benefit Fund. Participants are asked to raise money through online pledge forms and donations.
