Business owners on Erie Street are hoping the City of Windsor will install parking meters in the area to the east of the new La Bella Strada streetscaping.
Several business owners signed a petition and raised concerns such as
- that the elimination of parking spaces to the west of Langlois has shifted demand to the east
- that there is a shortage of parking for residents on Erie street
- that nearby side streets are being used for Erie Street business patrons
The City says that east of Langlois, parking is provided as a mix of unrestricted and 2-hour-limit free parking. The City has performed a brief study on the street and found that fourteen parking meter spaces could be accommodated. In order for any changes to be made, support must come from the Via Italia business improvement association or 60% of the neighbourhood must agree.
The City plans to follow up with petitioners, property owners and the BIA to determine how to move forward.
