The Windsor-Essex Parkway’s brand new, multi-lane roundabout opened this morning to traffic.
The multi-lane roundabout is a first for the Windsor-Essex region and is located where the Howard Avenue Diversion (County Road 9) meets Highway 3 and Highway 401. It is one of the first permanent features of the Parkway open to traffic.
Bob Chiarelli, Ontario Minister of Transportation, says, “The Parkway roundabout will keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently through the Windsor-Detroit trade corridor. Reports have shown that roundabouts can reduce vehicle collisions causing injury by 76 per cent.”
Due to the multi-lane nature of the roundabout, there are two things to keep in mind:
LEFT LANE – use this lane to go straight, go left, or go all the way around the roundabout
RIGHT LANE – use this lane to turn right immediately after entering or to go straight
