If you’re looking for some nightlife this weekend you might want to try the former Jack Rabbit Slims which has been recently reincarnated into Mynt Nightclub after a major renovation.
But if you start drinking before you leave home you may have a hard time finding the place. The only visible signage at the new dance club is a row of black banners bearing the letter “M”.
Once inside, however, your eyes will be tantalized by a custom-made bartop that looks like a cross between a lava lamp and a plasma TV screen. Behind the bar you can’t miss an impressive design element that appears to be a sheet of air bubbles dancing up a liquid wall.
“This is the only bar-top of its kind in Canada,” said co-owner Anthony Moscardelli. “It was custom-made for us.”
Moscardelli said he and 3 partners decided to gut the space and completely renovate to give a totally new look and feel. The partners invested $150K in the business including a $30,000 sound and light system. The club has a sleek, intimate feel and provides a steady supply of electro-house music blended by their own DJs.
Moscardelli, also a former Jack Rabbit Slims co-owner said the bar has been open 5 weeks now and he is happy with the level of business so far.
“Downtown Windsor is starting to come back compared to where it was 2 years ago,” he said, adding “Our capacity is 220 so we don’t need a lot of people in here.”
Mynt is located at 100 University Avenue West and is open Thursday to Sunday, 10pm to 2am. It’s owners are Moscardelli along with Joe Faubert, Nikko Petrupis and a fourth partner who declined to give his name.
