The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Associations was recently notified by their landlord that they have secured a tenant for the two properties on either side of their Ouellette Avenue offices and for their office space as well. This has caused the BIA to look for new office space and plan a move in the first few weeks of September.
The BIA is looking at moving to city owned space at 430 Pelissier and have formally requested as a board of management that was established by the city, that the city lease them the property at no cost to them aside from common maintenance fees and property taxes estimated to be at $5 a square foot.
In a letter to the city, the BIA does acknowledge that market rent for the property would be in the range of $23,650 annually, but the BIA says that they would have to invest upwards of $30,000 on leasehold improvements including painting, new kitchen, partitioning and dry-walling, mold remediation along with two new washrooms and new flooring.
The matter is on the communications agenda of Tuesday nights city council meeting.
