The Can-Am Police-Fire Games are hosting several Saturday events at the Riverfront Festival Plaza.
The FireFit Championships is a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed—testing strength and endurance. From seasoned veterans to first-time rookies, the competitions will be a showcase to see. It runs from 10:00 am to 12noon.
In addition to the FireFit event, Windsor Fire and Rescue will host the third annual WomenOnFire. WomenOnFire aims to promote diversity in emergency responder/security organizations within Windsor/Essex County. This initiative will also provide a recruitment training opportunity for women 18 years and older; to try out various components of each organization’s physical testing, ask questions, network with women already working within the organizations, and have an opportunity to mentor with these women if they choose. It runs from 8:00 am to 10:00 am and from 12noon to 2:00 pm.
The CAN-AM Police-Fire Games, in collaboration with the Windsor Corporate Challenge, is hosting a Firefighter Corporate Obstacle Course following the FireFit Competition and the WomenOnFire sessions at the Festival Plaza. It runs from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The Tug Across the River competition between the Windsor and Detroit Fire Departments will see 30 competitors on each side race to pull buoys at the end of a 1500-metre rope from the middle of the river to their respective country. This event has traditionally been part of the International Freedom Festival and was last won by Detroit. It takes place at 4:00 pm.
