The rainfall warning may be over, but the rain has not stopped.

The City of Windsor reports that their crews out in full force helping area residents deal with the effects of heavy rain showers.  As of 3:00 pm, the city has received approximately 150 basement flooding calls, 50 street flooding calls and 45 flooded yard calls.

“The sewers, pumping stations and sewage treatment plants are functioning properly”, said City Engineer Mario Sonego, “but the sheer volume of rain has sewers, ditches and streams at capacity.  Hopefully the end of the rain is near, which will allow the water to recede”.

While yard and street flooding is normal and expected, residents experiencing flooded basements are encouraged to call 311.

“It’s the best way we have of tracking and acting on the flooding”, said Sonego.  “Our ongoing efforts to help homeowners, like our basement protection subsidy program, and even the prevention tips on our website, can only go so far”.

311 is a free call for city information. Alternatively you can contact 311 Online.
