Last updated: Monday January 17th, 3:53pm: The case counts for LTC/RHs have been removed due to an error in the Health Unit’s data
The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 1,108 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.
NOTE: The Health Unit stresses that due to the recent surge in Omicron cases and changes in eligibility for testing, testing capacity is limited and case, contact, and outbreak management has been modified to focus on high-risk settings. As a result, they say case counts are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.
New & Total Cases
Of the 1,108 new cases:
- 515 were reported on January 15th
- 367 were reported on January 16th
- 226 were reported on January 17th
The Health Unit says 48 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 34 cases are community acquired, 25 cases are outbreak related, 6 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 995 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 30,638 on Friday January 14th to 31,746 on Monday January 17th.
There are 4,084 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 368 cases since Friday).
