Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 30 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says, 11 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 7 cases are community acquired, 3 cases are outbreak related, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 8 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 20,722 on Tuesday November 9th to 20,752 on Wednesday November 10th.
They say 190 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 13 since yesterday).
Variants of Concern
- 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
- 3,083 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 21)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 326,677 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+143 since yesterday)
- 14,825 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-120 since yesterday)
- 311,852 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+263 since yesterday)
- 7,452 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+314 since yesterday)
- A total of 645,981 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+720 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 74.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 86.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 71.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 82.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 1.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

The Health Unit lists 20,096 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 17 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 466.

The Health Unit lists 11 hospitalizations today: 6 people in acute care (decrease of 2), and 5 people in the ICU (increase of 3) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
